Thyroid Problem and Medical Astrology

Thyroid is one of the most common diseases of present time. Thyroid increases the risk of obesity and heart diseases, depression, anxiety, hair loss, and certain sexual problems and many other ailments.

Basically term Thyroid is a disorder of 3 glands –

  1. Thyroid gland located in the front of the neck.
  2. Pituitary gland located in the brain.
  3. Hypothalamus gland located just above the Pituitary gland.

Disorder in functioning of Thyroid Glands is of two types:

  1. Hypothyroidism
  2. Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism refers to an overactive thyroid (when it produces too much thyroid hormone) and hypothyroidism refers to an underactive thyroid (when it does not produce enough). These two conditions often have different signs and symptoms. But sometimes the symptoms can overlap. 

Common Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism:

  • Hand tremor
  • Weight loss
  • Nervousness
  • Fast heart rate
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Brittle skin
  • Muscle weakness
  • Irritability
  • Weaker or less frequent periods
  • Graves’ diseaseis the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. It is an autoimmune disease in which your immune system sees the thyroid as a foreign body and attacks it. The disease causes the thyroid to grow and release too much hormone.
  • Small masses within the thyroid (called a toxic nodular goiter) 
  • Thyroiditis — an inflammation of the thyroid due to a virus
  • Postpartum thyroiditis (after giving birth)
  • Taking too much thyroid hormone

 

  Common Symptoms of Hypothyroidism:

  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Cold sensitivity
  • Weight gain
  • Dry skin
  • Forgetfulness
  • Fatigue
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Constipation

  • Hoarseness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Elevated blood cholesterol level

  • Enlarged thyroid gland (Goitre)

Hypothyroidism in infants

  • Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice). In most cases, this occurs when a baby’s liver can’t metabolize a substance called bilirubin, which normally forms when the body recycles old or damaged red blood cells.
  • A large, protruding tongue.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Hoarse crying.
  • An umbilical hernia.

 

 Medical Astrology and Thyroid Problems

  • Thyroid gland is governed by Jupiter and Sun
  • If Sun and Jupiter are in conjunction with, afflicted or negatively aspected by Saturn, Rahu or Mars thyroid gland of the persons functions in abnormal manner.
  • Parathyroid gland is governed by Saturn and Mercury
  • These glands are embedded in the thyroid gland. The hormones secreted by it controls body use of calcium and phosphorus.
  • If Saturn conjunct Mercury under affliction, 2nd and 3rd house are also afflicted then this gland suffers.
  • Venus and 2nd & 3rd house are also the causal-factor of thyroid glands if under negative aspects, conjunction of affliction by Mars, Saturn and Rahu.
  • Thyroid problem can also occur due to weak Mars, Jupiter, Moon and Venus.
  • If Mercury is with Saturn or Rahu and also combust then problem in parathyroid gland is observed.
  • Weak & afflicted Jupiter in the chart also creates hypothyroid. If such Jupiter is with Rahu, Saturn or Venus in 2nd, 6th, 7th or 8th house such problem can emerge.
  • Venus also controls hormonal system. If Venus is with Moon, Saturn, Rahu or Mars in ascendant, 2nd, 8th house then this ailment emerges.
  • Hormone imbalance is also seen if Mars and Jupiter are in Taurus sign.
